Stop signing up for newsletters, free offers and coupon offers. Many people don’t realize that the main reason they receive spam is that they requested it. It is called an opt in list. Sometimes when you sign up for a newsletter, a free offer, coupons etc, you are also opting in to receive offers from third parties. Once you give your email address, your email address is put on a list and distributed to other advertisers that legally have the right to send you emails. If you want to cut down on your spam, don’t give away your email address.

If you have a web site, do not state in the contact information your exact email address. There are email programs that search for email addresses and then put them on spam lists. If you list your email, change the pattern to the following (john (at) yahoo.com) Legitimate people that would like to contact you will know to write it as john@yahoo.com. Following these two methods can drastically cut down on your spam.
