Pros and Cons of Various Types of Siding » home

If you are looking into renovating your house’s exterior siding, there are a few things you should know before you pick one type of siding over another. Here are some pros and cons on the most popular types of exterior siding.

Wood Siding
Wood siding is usually considered the most aesthetically pleasing of all the types of siding, making any home look warm and beautiful, unfortunately it is also usually the most costly and maintenance intensive. Wood siding usually needs to be stained or painted about every 5 to 7 years and does not hold up as well to the elements as the other choices in exterior siding.

Aluminum Siding
Aluminum siding is a popular choice for homeowners. It can be painted in almost any color, it is very strong, and lasts for decades. The drawbacks for aluminum siding is that aluminum siding does need to be painted. You can probably paint aluminum every 10 years or so. Aluminum siding also dents and dips easily, so you may have to replace a few pieces as time goes by. However, aluminum can be recycled and is very cost effective.

Vinyl Siding
Vinyl siding is one of the more popular choices today. Vinyl can last for decades and need very little maintenance for it to look great year in and year out. Vinyl is also easy to work with and comes in a variety of colors. Vinyl is probably the cheapest option when it comes to exterior siding and is also affordable to have installed. The only drawback is that it isn’t that great for the environment due to the fact that it doesn’t degrade that quickly.
