For basic plumbing jobs you don’t really need that many tools. You can usually get by with a few wrenches, some of them being extra wide to grab onto wide nuts attached to pipes, some screw drivers, a plumbing snake, some Teflon tape, a plunger and a hammer.

If you are looking to replace a faucet or sink, you can easily accomplish this with a wrench, couple of screw drivers and some Teflon tape. Teflon tape makes a water tight seal so you don’t find your faucet dripping through out the night.

For blockages in your pipes, a plunger is a great tool to use. You can usually unblock a mild to moderate blockage in a pipe with a plunger, for difficult blockages try a plumbing snake. A snake is a coiled up metal wire that is inserted into the pipe. You insert it manually to try to undo the blockage. If you have very bad blockage, you will usually need to remove a part of the pipe, you can use a PVC pipe cutter for plastic PVC pipes or a metal pipe cutter for galvanized steel pipes.
