Is Wood Siding Right for Your Home » home

One of the more popular choices for exterior home siding is wood. Most people choose wood due to its warmth and beauty. However, wood does need lots of maintenance and can cost more than many other materials. Here are some pros and cons on exterior wood siding.

Wood siding can come in many different styles and types of wood. The most popular types of wood used for exterior wood siding are cedar, cypress and redwood. These types of woods usually come in either shingles, which are small rectangle or square pieces of wood which also referred to as shakes and long boards which can be attached to the home in either a vertical, horizontal or diagonal position.

Wood can last for years as long as you maintain it properly and that includes staining it every few years or applying a coat of pain on the wood every few years. In addition, you should also inspect the wood siding each year to spot rot by weather, insects and birds. This way you can remove the damage, replace the shakes or boards and stop any further damage to the siding. If you would like to have a beautiful and warm looking home, look into exterior wood siding. It may cost a little more and require additional maintenance, but to a lot of homeowners it is well worth it.
