If you have problems with your home plumbing, many times, you might be able to fix it yourself without having to call a plumber. Plumbing is easier than you think and if you find yourself just a little bit handy, you probably have the skills to effectively fix many common plumbing problems.
If you have an overflowing toilet, it is usually due to a blockage. There are many ways to fix a blockage. You can easily use a plunger to dislodge minor to moderate blockages. If a plunger doesn’t work at first, add a chemical unblocking agent made from acids such as liquid plumber or Drain-o. Usually over the course of a couple of hours, the blockage will break down allowing water to flow smoothly.
If you still have problems, you can usually fix the majority of blockages with a plumbing snake. A plumbing snake is usually a made out of metal coil and is inserted into your toilet or drain. You can usually dislodge most blockages with a plumbing snake. Most snakes are usually 10 yards or longer.
If the snake doesn’t work then you will probably have to cut the area of pipe that has the blockage or is causing you trouble. If the pipe is easy to get to and you feel confident with the project, go ahead and complete the project. However, if you have some reservations, it is best at this time to contact a professional plumber.
