The beauty about sub woofers is that low frequencies are omni directional, which means a sub woofer can be placed anywhere in the room to create low, deep sound. Most people choose to place their sub woofer near solid objects, usually close to walls to give a more bassy feel and allow the sound waves to resonate off the wall. However, most people find that a subwoofer either touching the wall or only an inch or two away from the wall can cause rattling and an unpleasant sound experience.
