One of the many audio components that were popular in the past were turntables. For most people over 30, turntables were the predominant means to listening to your music before CD’s were popular. Many audiophiles have fond memories of their favorite vinyl albums. However, since turntables almost disappeared during the last decade, a few audiophiles have kept it alive. Today, turntables are usually high end components that are very popular with music lovers that prefer analog music compared to digital music.
You can purchase a turntable today for about $100 for a belt driven item or over $3K for high end, specialty motor driven turntables. Usually there are three different ways to turn a turntable, by a belt, which is the most affordable, but lacks precision, through a direct drive or servo motor and other include high tech, high end silicone belts that state the best possible performance.
Besides a turntable, you will also need to purchase a stylus. Stylus’s can range from a few bucks to several hundred dollars depending on the quality of the item. However, for vinyl lovers that prefer the sound of analog recordings to digital, there is only one way to listen to music and that is on a turntable.
