Floor Standing Speakers » home audio

One of the most popular types of speakers sold today is the common floor standing speaker. Floor standing speakers or sometimes called loud speakers are a part of many home audio systems. While floor standing speakers were extremely popular a couple of decades ago, more and more people have moved onto to smaller satellite and bookshelf speakers due to space requirements. However, for true audiophiles, nothing beats the big sound of floor standing speakers.

Floor standing speakers usually have a large footprint and powerful woofers. Many floor speakers are usually in either 2 way, 3 way or 4 way models. 2 way means that a floor speaker has a tweeter for highs and a midrange for lows and mid level sound frequencies. Most floor standing speakers also come in 3 way models, this includes a tweeter for highs, mid range for mid sound frequencies and a woofer for the lowest frequencies. The speaker comes equipped with a crossover to make sure the right frequency go to the right woofer, horn or tweeter.

Most floor standing speakers are much more expensive than their bookshelf or satellite counterpart. Man floor standing speakers are made out high quality woods such as Teac and are sold as components for people that treasure music.
