One of the many new innovations in audio CD’s is DVD Audio or commonly referred to as DVDA. DVD audio and its competitor SACD (super audio CD) have been around for a couple of years, but have failed to make any inroads into the larger music market.

DVD audio is a high quality audio disc that can play in many more channels than a normal CD. For instance, you can play a DVD audio CD in both normal stereo, as well as surround sound mode that offers a 5.1 channel. Besides the different channels available, DVD audio offers more space and thus can fit more music on a disc. In addition, DVD audio discs can play in many different sampling rates, just like an mp3. Usually, the higher the sampling rate, the higher quality of the music.

DVD audios direct competitor is SACD. SACD and DVD audio discs have failed to become popular with today’s music buyers, however audiophiles do purchase these discs for their high end qualities. Many DVD players now include DVD audio and you can usually find DVD audio players for around $100 to $300. If you want to experience top digital quality music, look into purchasing a DVD audio player.
