3 Way VS 2 Way Speakers
Thinking about this topic? You have come to the right place for all the information possible.
If you are interested in purchasing speakers for your home audio system, one of the many factors that you should look into is whether the speaker is a 2 way or 3 way design. While both designs are popular, they each have their pros and cons, here are some tips.
A 2 way speaker design is a speaker that has a tweeter plus a mid range horn that plays mid level and low level frequencies. The speaker has a crossover which will send and sort the sound properly. The crossover sends low level sounds to the midrange horn and send high frequency sounds to the tweeter.
A 3 way speaker design adds a separate woofer for low frequencies. It also has a crossover that distributes sound between highs, mid range frequencies and low end frequencies. It is also important to note that there are 4 way speakers, but they usually include two low end woofers.
Both 2 way and 3 way speakers sound very good, however, a 3 way design can be beneficial for true sound separation. The upside to a 2 way speaker is that it takes up much less space. Most three way speakers are about 50% larger than there 2 way counterparts and thus usually more expensive.
