Drug Allergies
Whenever we think of reading more about something, we turn to the Internet to learn more about it. And that is why we have this report here.
Most people don’t realize that one of the many common allergies is drug related. For people that require medical care from time to time, drug allergies can cause discomfort or severe side effects.
Drug allergies are similar to regular allergies. Your body’s immune system reacts to the drug as a foreign substance and over reacts producing histamines to rid your body of the substance. Histamines can cause lots of discomfort from hives, runny nose, water eyes and even severe symptoms such as dizziness and loss of breath.
There are two common types of drugs that are known to cause drug allergies, they are antibiotics such as penicillin and aspirin. Penicillin can usually cause mild or moderate symptoms such as an upset stomach, hives or itching, the same is true with aspirin. However there are certain drugs that can cause severe allergic reactions.
Most doctors will keep an eye on you to make sure you do not have an allergic reaction to a specific drug. If there is a mild reaction, you might be prescribed an anti histamine or cortisone. For shortness of breath or closing of the throat, a bronchial diolator may be prescribed. If you know that you are allergic to certain drugs, it is extremely important that you inform your physician or health care professional on entering the hospital.
