Many newspapers have been writing recently about an epidemic in overweight children in America. It seems that for many children, fast food, a decline in outdoor activities and poor eating habits have increased the possibility that your child may be overweight. Here are some tips to keep your children fit and healthy.
Fast food
While most kids love fast food and many parents find it convenient, try to lower your kid’s intake of fast food. Choose instead to cook for your children, giving them fresh fruits and vegetables instead of burgers and fries. While occasional fast food is not harmful, a healthy balanced diet should be a top priority.
Outdoor activities
Many children love to watch TV and play video games. While during the winter months and rainy days this can be a great way to fight boredom, try to make fun outdoor activities appealing during the year. The more active your child is the less they will sit around the house. Any kind of activity will help burn calories and help the body stay in shape.
Nutritional Education
One of the best ways to keep your kids fit is to educate them how to eat properly. It is a great idea to teach your kids the basics on what foods are good for you and those that are not healthy. Not only will they understand why they are being told to eat certain foods, hopefully they will contain to eat healthy for the years to come.
