Tulips » gardening

Tulips are extremely beautiful and colorful. They are one of the most popular types of flowers and are given as gifts of appreciation and love in many countries. Most tulips bloom in spring and early summer. In fact, they are one of the more hardy breeds of flowers.

Most tulips that are sold in the US are usually grown in Holland, these flowers are annuals and most growers tend to remove the bulb and any foliage from the previous year and replace it with a fresh bulb either in late fall or early spring before planting. These flowers should not be grown in cold climates and will die in frost.

Tulips come in many colors including white, red, yellow, pink, however the only color they do not come in is blue. They make great flowers for cutting and will stay in bloom for many days once freshly cut. When planting these flowers make sure that there is plenty of drainage and that the Tulip has access to nutritious soil. If you live in very hot climates and would like to grow Tulips, you can store the Tulip bulbs in a refrigerator (do not freeze) for 4 to 6 weeks and then plant them in good soil with drainage.
