The Honeysuckle is a popular plant that blossoms in the early spring and usually falls to the ground by the autumn. There are many different species of the Honeysuckle, in fact, there are presently over 175 breeds of these very versatile plants.

The blossoms of these plants are usually bell or funnel shaped and usually come in red, pink or white colors. Honeysuckles usually have small red berries that birds love, however they should not be consumed by humans. They are not poisonous, but can cause stomach discomfort.

These plants are very low maintenance and only need regular watering and some fertilizer during the spring, summer and fall months. Honeysuckles give off a pleasant honey odor and besides bees and birds, do not attract pests. They also grow in shaded areas, but will not create as much blossoms as in direct sunlight. Because there are so many different species of Honeysuckle, you should check out the exact growing requirement for the one that you choose.

For best results, you can plant them in the fall time, usually late fall will be best and keep the soil fairly drained. You do not need to fertilize them during the winter months. Pruning is not necessary as well, unless bugs or other pests have gotten to them.
