Subwoofers » electronics

Subwoofers are an essential part of any high end stereo or home theater system. If you want to get lots of oomph and add punch to your sound, a subwoofer can help tremendously. Here are some tips.

Subwoofers are different from other types of speakers. Subwoofers only focus on the lower end of the audio frequency spectrum. Most speakers usually handle frequencies from about 120 hertz to 18K Hertz. Subwoofers have a crossover that cuts off the higher frequencies and only reproduces frequencies from about 120 hertz and lower. Some speakers go below 10 hertz which can be difficult for the human ear to hear. At this level, you only feel bass.

Since subwoofers are omni directional, you can place a subwoofer anywhere in the room. Many subwoofers look like cubes and are made from either wood or laminates. Many people put their subwoofers near the corner of the walls to help resonate the bass around the room. Subwoofers usually cost from about $150 to over $500 for high end models. They can come in sizes from 8 inches to 15 inches. The larger the subwoofer is, the more deeper the bass. If you are looking to add more punch to your audio, check out subwoofers.
