HDTV
Make use of our vast resources to build up your know-how on this topic.
HDTV stands for high definition TV and HDTV signals are now available via over the air broadcasts, cable companies and satellite companies. If you are interested in viewing HDTV, here are some tips.
Televisions that are HDTV capable
First, not every TV can show HDTV signals. Standard TV’s will continue to show the TV broadcast as it is normally seen on other channels, however for more technically advanced TV sets, you will be able to watch TV with more lines per screen and images that are non interlaced. This ultimately means that the TV programs that you watch are much better quality, 100% better with some formats over standard TV.
HDTV Tuners
Even if you have an HDTV ready TV set, you will need a special tuner to pick up HDTV signals over the airwaves. These tuners are generally affordable costing less than $100. By 2009, all US TV signals will be broadcasted in HDTV, which means standard TV sets will need a special device to receive digital signals and show them on standard TV sets. HDTV sets usually are much more expensive than standard TV sets and are either LCD or Plasma technology which means they can be shaped differently (widescreen) and are much thinner in depth than a standard TV.
