Scotch Collie » dogs

Scotch Collies are the breed that Lassie the TV and movie star has made famous. These dogs are a beautiful breed with long hair that are usually a few inches in length, moderate to thin bones and pointy ears with beautiful deep brown eyes. They usually have a long muzzle. The coat colors come in either white with brown or red or tri colored. They are about 20 to 24 inches in height and weigh about 45 to 70 pounds.

One of the best companion dogs, the Scotch Collie is loyal, affectionate and a great watch dog. They are extremely intelligent, but quite less active than the Border collie. The Scotch Collie does well with training and you can train them very easily. They do well in the home and are usually very good housemates; they are rarely destructive or messy.

They do well in an apartment, but do need lots of regular exercise and attention. They should not be left alone for long periods of time on a regular basis. They enjoy roaming around and a large yard or farm is perfect for these dogs. They also do great with children, other dogs and even non canine pets. They are a very healthy breed and have a life expectancy of over 12 years.
