The Saint Bernard is one of the largest breeds, with a powerful and muscular build, large brown or dark eyes and a long haired coat that comes in various different colors including white with red, brown, black and other colors. These dogs are bred to be working dogs and do very well in colder climates.

The height makes a Saint Bernard more prestigious and they can be as tall as 25 to 28 inches. They can weigh an enormous amount of weight, tipping the scales at about 180 to 200 pounds. While they do need lots of food, they are usually very easy to care for.

The Saint Bernard is extremely gentle, affectionate and loyal, they do well with other dogs, pets and especially children. While great for children, you should supervise them, only due to their large weight.

They are very smart and easy to train. It is a good idea to train them due to their large size. They do need lots of room to move and a home with a large yard should be satisfactory. Because of their size, they should be exercised regularly. These dogs are generally healthy and have a long life expectancy. They do better in cold climates and will quickly become uncomfortable in the heat.
