Rottweiler » dogs

Rottweilers are big, beefy dogs that are extremely muscular. They are very active, powerful and loyal. This breed is rather large, weighing about 95 to 140 pounds and being about 24 to 27 inches in height. Most Rottweilers are black and brown or red mixed. Their coat is short but hard and their coat is usually easy to groom.

These dogs are very possessive and this makes them excellent watch dogs. They do however require good breeding and a responsible owner and trainer. Without a responsible trainer they can become very angry and aggressive. While they are excellent at guarding a family, these dogs are not recommended to be around small children, however older, more responsible children are usually fine.

Because they are very active and athletic, they require lots of space to move around and should not be kept in an apartment. They do best with a big yard and plenty of activity and attention from their master.

Most Rottweilers are fairly healthy; however poor breeding can lead to inferior animals. You should always have your dog checked each year. Rottweiler puppies should be checked out a few times during their first two years. This breed’s life expectancy is usually about 10 to 12 years old.
