Irish Setters are a great looking dog that has strong hunting instincts and makes the perfect family pet. The Irish Setter is known for its beautiful red or mahogany flowing hair which is feathered and a few inches in length. They usually have thin bodies that are slightly longer than tall and a streamlined chest. The eyes are usually dark brown. They weight about 55 to 65 pounds and are about 22 to 25 inches in height.

These dogs are full of energy, are extremely affectionate and very active. They love to play constantly and enjoy children, other dogs and can live with other pets. They definitely need lots of attention and it is a good idea to train them and socialize them early on so that they behave. Training can be difficult with this breed, they are smart, but they can be willful.

These dogs are full of energy and do well with a large yard. Apartment living is not for them. They require lots of exercise and should be fed in small amounts over the course of a day. They are generally healthy, but can suffer from ear problems and skin allergies. They have a life expectancy of about 12 to 15 years old.
