Golden Retriever

One of the more human friendly dogs around is the Golden Retriever, this mid to large size dog is mostly known for its golden coat. However, the coat does come in hues ranging from yellow, to almost red. The coat is made up of two coats, the first outer coat is very long and is made to be water repellent, the undercoat is very soft.
The Golden retriever is well proportioned and has a long tail that curls. The average height of the Golden Retriever is 22 to 24 inches and they average in weight at about 55 to 70 pounds. Golden Retrievers need a good amount of exercise and love to play, fetch and are perfect for family pets.
One of the key things to consider with this breed is whether or not you have enough attention to give to this dog. Golden Retrievers need lots of attention and do not do well when alone or isolated. Make sure there are plenty of activities for this dog before choosing it.
While Golden Retrievers are usually healthy, they usually need to be looked at every year by a vet, they do suffer from hereditary conditions, including skin disorders, blood disorders and dysplasia. Most Golden Retrievers usually live over 12 years.
