One of the most popular dog breed is the German Shepherd. The German Shepherd was primarily bred as a working dog and is usually mid to large sized. It comes in colors of tan, brown, sable, blue, black, pretty much every color except white. The legs are usually strong and muscular, the bite of this breed is a scissor bite, the ears are usually pointy and wide apart and the tail bushy. The nose is usually black and the eyes are brown. Most German Shepherds are about 24 to 26 inches tall and weigh about 75 to 85 pounds.

The disposition of the German Shepherd is usually that of a hardy work dog. They are fearless and brave. They are extremely keen and constantly give watch, making them excellent guard dogs. They are great for pets and excellent with children and other dogs when socialized property. They also can get along well with other types of pets, as long as they are trained from a very early age. They are intelligent and love to learn, making them excellent students and very obedient.

While German Shepherds are a hardy breed, because of their popularity, many breeders have not taken care of which dogs they breed and have caused some hereditary illnesses including blood disorders, digestive problems, problems with the hips and elbows and flea allergies. Expect the German Shepherd to have a life expectancy of about 12 to 14 years.
