Doberman Pincher » dogs

Doberman Pinchers have a reputation for being vicious guard dogs and while they were at once great gladiators and bred mainly for protection, with proper breeding and socially responsible training and ownership, these dogs are extremely loyal, gentle and make good pets.

Doberman pinchers are on the large size with a height about 22 to 26 inches. They can weigh anywhere from 55 to 70 pounds. They mostly come in colors of brown, black and tan. Their coats are short and they are very muscular and well proportioned. Usually their tail is cropped.

These dogs must be socialized properly to be with children and other dogs. Their nature is to be possessive and can be jealous if not socialized properly. They tend to be active and do need to be exercised regularly. While they can live in an apartment, they truly need a small yard or park to run and play in. They should also be stimulated, especially at a young age and they are generally easy to train due to their intelligence.

Most Doberman Pinchers are fairly healthy, however regular check ups are required. Many Doberman Pinchers can live to be about 12 to 14 years old. While they are still used mostly as guard dogs, they make excellent pets as well.
