Dalmatian » dogs

One of the most well known breeds is the Dalmatian. The Dalmatian is a mid size dog that is white with black spots all over it. It has been popularized by many books and Hollywood movies and many children know it all over America as a fire dog.

These dogs are gentle, affectionate and loyal companions and make excellent pets. Their bodies are well proportioned and have a short haired coat. Dalmatians have an enormous amount of stamina. They were intentionally bred so that they would run with carriages and this is where they get their fire dog persona from. They usually are about 20 to 24 inches in height and weigh about 45 to 55 pounds.

They are great pets and get along very well with children, other dogs and usually most pets. They do need some activity during the day, but do fine living in a small home or apartment. They love people and need to be around their owner as much as possible, so it is not a good idea to leave this dog home alone on a regular basis.

Due to poor breeding, they do have hereditary diseases and can develop health complications. It is important to have these dogs check out regularly.
