The Chihuahua is an extremely small dog; perhaps the smallest of the dog breed, however what they don’t have in size, is usually made up in spunk. They are truly big dogs in a small package and don’t let the small size fool you, their bite is much worse than their bark. Their size is about 6 to 9 inches and usually only a few pounds in weight. They come in many different colors and have a proportioned body with short hair. There is also a less common long hair Chihuahua.

While they are not vicious, they can be snappish. They do not trust strangers, however are extremely good companion dogs and extremely loyal to their owners. While other pets, dogs and children are ok with this breed, they can be willful and at times hard to accommodate. However, for many people, these dogs are extremely adorable and the perfect accessory.

While they are difficult to train, they are not dumb, they are actually quite smart. They do great in the lap and love their owners immensely. They have small noses which can cause them to have trouble breathing or snore when they sleep, however they are generally healthy and can live up to 15 years.
