Beagle » dogs

The Beagle is a great family pet and a companion to any hunter. These small stocky dogs are extremely friendly and very adorable. They are characterized by their strong sense of smell and have a loud crying bark. While they can be the perfect family pet, very cute, lovable and friendly, their loud bark can be disruptive to a family or its neighbors.

Most Beagles have short coats that are tri colored with red, brown and white. They are about 14 to 16 inches in height and weight about 20 to 25 pounds. They have a wide face, deep brown eyes and a scissor bite.

They are great family pets and do well with children and other dogs. They do not like to be left alone and do require lots of attention. Many owners buy two Beagles to keep each other company. They can be active, but do well in an apartment, however once outside, they come alive. They have a strong sense of smell and will enjoy searching and hunting when outdoors. Make sure to exercise them daily with either a moderate walk or yard play.

While a healthy breed, they are prone to heart and eye diseases. Their life expectancy is usually about 10 to 14 years.
