Basset Hound » dogs

The Basset Hound is a beautiful, well natured dog. It usually has a wide and big head with large floppy ears. The coat is quite short, hard and velvety. The colors of the coat are usually tri colored or dual colored with brown, red, white and black. The eyes are sad looking and nose is black. Their height is usually about 12 to 15 inches and they weigh about 45 to 60 pounds.

The Basset Hound is a gentle, loyal and a laid back breed. They are very smart and great as a family pet. They enjoy children and love being part of the family. They are usually inactive and some people might say that they are lazy; however they have great noses and a strong sense of smell. If they pick up an interesting scent it is extremely difficult to get their attention.

They are good for apartment living, but do require lots of exercise. They enjoy running and given the opportunity they will run for long periods of time. They are the perfect playmate for children. They are not the best guard dogs, but do have a unique musical bark. They usually are never snappish and won’t bite. They are generally a healthy breed, but do need regular check ups. Their life expectancy is about 12 years.
