American Pit Bull

The American Pit Bull is an extremely strong, muscular and athletic dog. Bred years ago to be gladiators, they still have strength in their determination to win and dominate. These dogs are medium in height and can weight anywhere from 50 to 100 pounds. They have a wide stance, are squarish in body and have a strong jaw and squarish face.
While these dogs have been bred for fighting in the past, many of the breeders are more responsible with this breed and have taken out a lot of the viciousness associated with them. It is extremely important that an owner trains this dog from an early age and that the dog is socialized very well. They can be very possessive and can also become jealous easily. This dog is not a good first dog or a family pet; it usually requires firm and stern training and care.
Usually these dogs can live outdoors, and they do require plenty of exercise, so an apartment is not an ideal place for them. You should not mix other dogs with the American Pit Bull, as it will usually try to dominate them. Other pets are not a good mix either. For the right owner that is very responsible, these dogs will show lots of love and loyalty.
