The American Hairless Terrier is an interesting dog breed to say the least. While its unique trait is that it has no hair, these dogs are actually great pets and offer their owners lots of personality.
The American Hairless Terrier is a new breed in the US, dating from the 1970’s, today they are growing in popularity mainly due to their great disposition and appearance. The American Hairless Terrier does not have hair, but rather pink skin with either black or brown spots. It is soft to the touch and protection is required when the dog is in the sun for long periods or when they are in a cool climate. Obviously this dog does not do well in cold climates and if you live in a hot climate, make sure they have shade to sit in. They can suffer from sun burn.
These dogs are affectionate and loyal. They have a good disposition and perfect for family pets. They make good companions and great with children, other dogs and usually with other pets, however proper socialization is required. They are smart so training is not a problem.
They do well indoors and an apartment is fine for them. They usually get enough activity with regular walks throughout the day. They are generally healthy and live past 12 years of age.
