The American Cocker Spaniel is an extremely cuddly looking dog that is usually about 12 to 15 inches in height and weighs about 20 to 25 pounds. While Cocker Spaniels were originally bred for hunting, a long coat is usually not very functional for this task, it will normally get caught on the brush. For true hunting Cocker Spaniels, a shorter coat is required.

These dogs are usually require a calm and soothing environment. They do not do well with overly forceful trainers or owners.
