American Cocker Spaniel » dogs

The American Cocker Spaniel is an extremely cuddly looking dog that is usually about 12 to 15 inches in height and weighs about 20 to 25 pounds. The color of their coat is usually white, black, brown or a mix. Their coat is long and flowing and their heads are usually domed shaped with dark, brown eyes. While Cocker Spaniels were originally bred for hunting, a long coat is usually not very functional for this task, it will normally get caught on the brush. For true hunting Cocker Spaniels, a shorter coat is required.

These dogs are usually require a calm and soothing environment. They do not do well with overly forceful trainers or owners. They are considered to be a soft breed and require a delicate hand when playing, socializing or training.

The Cocker Spaniel is usually a healthy breed, but does suffer from some hereditary diseases. You should make sure that your dog is checked each year. This breed is great for apartment living and for life with children. They make great family pets.
