Alaskan Husky » dogs

Alaskan Huskies are true work dogs. They like to pull sleds, pull their owners on skis and run with the pack in the snow. Slightly different from Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Huskies usually have brown eyes instead of blue or silver eyes, have a more athletic build and are usually larger in overall size than a Siberian Husky.

Average weight of an Alaskan Husky is 45 to 70 pounds and they are about 20 to 25 inches in height.

Alaskan Huskies are very intelligent and usually easy to train, however it is important to note that these dogs are very independent and willful. They must be trained appropriately and will not listen to commands that do not have a point. They are outside dogs and do not do well in a home or apartment environment. Most Alaskan Huskies love to work and need lots of activity to keep them happy. They are very playful and are thus not good watchdogs. They love strangers and do well with other dogs. In order to understand the type of dog the Alaskan Husky is, you should understand the environment of the Artic. While these dogs are beautiful and exotic, they only make good pets if you are extremely active, live in a colder environment, have other dogs around and have a job for these dogs to do.
