One of the joys about owning a car is maintaining it. For many people car maintenance is a headache, but for many car enthusiasts, it’s a joy to get under the hood and make their cars run and look better. Here are some tips on changing the oil.

Changing your oil is relatively simple but varies by make and model of car. For many car owners it is a good idea to go out and buy all the supplies necessary, usually an oil wrench, oil pan, car ramp of some kind so you can easily fit underneath the wheels and fresh oil filters and oil. While many oil service businesses charge up to $30 or more for an oil change, you can usually do it for far less than $10.

Changing your oil only takes about 10 minutes once you get the hang of it, but the first time take it slow and follow the instructions for your specific make and model. You can find information usually in auto repair guide or online tutorial.

One thing to consider, when changing the oil, make sure you keep the old oil in the pan and discard it in an environmentally friendly way. Most gas stations will be happy to accept the old oil from you. This way you don’t pollute the environment. If you are looking to give some TLC to your car, give it an oil change.
