Many people have been stopped for speeding in their vehicle. Sometimes we are late for work, didn’t know the speed on the road has changed, or were not informed about the proper speed due to poor signage. The cost of a ticket can be far more expensive than the $60 or $80 that you pay; it can be closer to $1000 with the insurance surcharge and points added. This is why it is important to fight your ticket.
You can easily appear in court to contest your ticket, you usually don’t need a lawyer. Prepare to talk with the District Attorney, he or she will be the one to talk to you in order to plea down your ticket to a lesser charge or a charge that does not have any points and insurance surcharges. Most of the times, if you explain your case to the DA before you meet with the judge; you might be able to plea down to a lesser offense so that you can pay your fine and not have to worry about points or a surcharge. If the DA does not agree, then go before the judge or ask for another date, when you can bring a lawyer.
