Keep your computer off surfaces that heat quickly. For instance, while wood might take a while to reach hotter temperatures, a ceramic desk can heat up considerably faster creating a kind of stove top that your computer sits on.

Raise your computer above the desk. If you have a laptop on your desk, think about raising it a couple of inches off the desk, so that air can get in and underneath it. Many times vents are placed underneath the computer. Cool air must be able to reach these vents to cool off the computer.
