Reformatting Your Hard Drive » computers

If you have a desktop computer or laptop computer, you have probably realized that eventually you may have to reformat your hard drive. Reformatting your hard drive means that you will erase everything on your hard drive and reload all your applications and software onto your computer. Most of the time reformatting your hard drive is necessary after your hard drive crashes or a virus has created havoc on your computer. Here are some tips.

To be honest, reformatting is the easy part; it is getting your computer back to normal with all your data and software back onto your compute that can be difficutl. In order to reformat your computer you must first insert your Windows reinstallation CD and follow the instructions. Your computer will automatically erase your entire hard drive. The reinstallation CD will then copy the initial files and software that came loaded with your computer for the first time onto your computer.

In order to make the complete reformatting process smoother follow these tips. During your day to day use of your computer make sure that you always have a back up or archive of your important data. If you have important files or pictures, make sure that they are archived on a DVD disk or CD disk. Many people make the mistake of thinking that their precious data files are safe on their computer. So, keep archives of all your important files either every day or every week. With CD’s and DVD’s you can save large amounts of data very easily, so it shouldn’t be that hard to archive.

It is also important that you have copies of all your necessary application such as Windows, and MS Office. Many people have their important disks scattered all over the place, so when it is time to reformat your hard drive, you can easily load the most important applications onto your computer.
