An affiliate is a web site owner who agrees to place another persons product on their web site for sale. If the product is sold, the web site owner gets part of the profit.
Most people sell the affiliates products on their own web site, but a growing number of people are trying to grab traffic by placing advertisements in Google Adwords. For instance if you as an affiliate normally place a sellers car polish on your web site, now you can place an advertisement for the car polish on Google Adwords, people who search for the keywords car polish will see your advertisement, hopefully click your ad and buy your product. You don’t need to have the product in inventory, or worry about shipping, you just collect part of the profit.
This strategy may not be good for every type of product, but it can be useful on products where the profit is high enough. If you can make $10 to $15 per sale and one advertisement only costs you 10 cents, then it seems like a good proposition that one person in 100 would not only be interested in the product you are selling, but purchase it as well.
